Olhão is the largest fishing port in the Algarve. It has beautiful water front with Moorish-style houses and some very good fish and vegetable markets. There is a ferry terminal in Olhão that will take you out to the islands within the Ria Formosa lagoon system, there are a number of islands you can see Ilha da Culatra, Ilha do Farol and Ilha da Armona which have some fantastic beaches with the Atlantic on one side and the warmer waters of the ria on the inside with great safe anchorages to explore from.
